Engr. Yusuf Buhari, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the February 25 election, has stated that money politics will not get Nigerians out of their current predicament.

Buhari made the announcement during a press conference in Ibadan on Monday evening.

Barr. Michael Lana, the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the state, was present, as was the SDP Chairman, Mr Michael Okunlade, and some of the party’s candidates in the 2023 general elections.

While speaking to journalists, Buhari stated that Nigeria is currently facing a number of crises that could be averted by visionary, patriotic, just, and determined leadership.

During the election, he advised voters to avoid money politics “because it will not get us anywhere.”

Buhari warned that if we continue to play money politics, our politics will be determined by those with the most money, not those with the best offers.

He went on to say that the task ahead requires governance that is fully aware of our differences in order to fully harness and utilize the potential of these differences with justice.

Buhari went on to urge Nigerians to vote for the party’s presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo, and other candidates in order to lift Nigeria out of its current predicament.

“We must resolve to halt and reverse the trend of failure,” he added.

He declared that it was time to begin walking the path that would lead the country to prosperity and success.

“The progress or success that we must strive for as a people is also a direct result of self-accountability and self-discipline,” Buhari said.

“If we continue to play money politics, then our politics will be determined by the people who have the most money, not by those who can offer the best. These are essential elements for restoring sanity and functionality to any system, as well as defining a responsible citizenry.

“We must resolve to halt and reverse this failure trend. It is time to begin the journey that will lead this country to success and prosperity. And, if nothing else, let us do it for the sake of our children. Our solutions and our fate are entirely in our hands.”
