The Military Taskforce set to fight the menace of galamsey has set on fire eight new excavators belonging to Kate Gyamfua.
Kate Gyamfua is the Women’s Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)
She takes over from Otiko Afisa Djaba. Kate Gyamfua was a former National Deputy Women’s Organizer and has served in various positions of the party as a National Executive Council Member, National Council of Patrons Member, Eastern Regional Council of Patrons, Life Patron – Eastern Region NPP Women’s Wing, Former Akwatia Constituency Women’s Organizer, Former Akwatia NPP Polling Station Chairperson, Eminent Group of Party Financiers, Founder and Convener of Women for Change and Wednesday Women’s Club Member of NPP.
It is very said how the New Patriotic Party has drastically lost the fight against galamsey. In that, their own national Executives and key people are indulging in this illegal act.
Eight new excavators at Akyem Akropong belonging to Kate Gyamfua has been set on fire.
There has been a great concern as to why these excavators are not seized and channelled into a productive means for the nation.
An eyewitness by the name Nana Aquasi Agyeman has explained why the excavators are burnt.
He said:
“Brother, it is not that simple. I have been to galamsey sites & I know what goes on there.
Let me tell u what happens. When security forces are coming, the ppl remove the machine’s ‘control board’ & run away. Without the control board, there is no way an excavator can be taken away cuz the machine is heavy & can not easily be lifted onto a truck.
The difficult part is, the boards are machine specific so u can’t use a different machine’s board to start another. U need to get the exact specs of the one they’ve removed. The security men have nothing to do. They have to leave it & continue their journey.
Later, the operators come back to fix the board they removed & continue to destroy the land.
U can go to one particular site 5 times & u will never be able to move/confiscate a single excavator let alone auction it.
I can tell u that all the machines being burnt are the ones that the owners/operators are preventing the security personnel from confiscating them so let’s not chastise them so much. What is going on in the forest is not as simple as we see it.”
