After the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta announced the cessation of toll booths in November 2021, the place has been in a sorry state.
Portions of the Tema toll booth have been demarcated by people for resting, sleeping, or taking a nap. Other portions have also been taken over by livestock as their habitat.
Some people have also created an illegal u-turn around the place aiding the activities of motorists who ply the illegal roads at a fee to get unto the motorway.
CCTV cameras meant for monitoring operations have been left unguarded. A motor rider advised authorities to come for the cameras to avoid people stealing them.
A resident complaint was about the unsanitary condition of the place, calling on authorities to either demolish the toll booths or keep them tidy.
Another resident said “the time the toll booth was in operation, the place was kept tidy with dustbins around. Now after abolishing the toll booth, wastes have been in the bins for several months without dumping. The road has been floated with dirt which was not so the time the toll booth was in operation”
Residents indicated that officials should ensure the place is kept tidy or demolition of the toll booths to avoid the current state the toll is in.
