The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo, has started clearly that Mrs Mercy Adu Gyamfi (Ama Sey) who happens to be the Member of Parliament for the Akwatia constituency is not standing as an independent candidate, as others perceived it to be.

Ama Sey lost the NPP parliamentary with four votes. There was a rumour of she going to stand as an independent candidate towards the 2020 general elections.

The Senior Minister added that she performed creditably as a Member of Parliament by lobbying for projects for the development of the area. The was an assurance of she being given a role to play in the next NPP government, he stressed.

There was an agitation by some party members calling on the MP to go independent, which he described as unfortunate.
He advised them to show loyalty to any outcome of their democratic principles.

In 2016, Ama Sey contested with the by then incumbent MP Mr Baba Jamal, the Deputy Minister in the then NDC administration. Which she won.

She was later defeated by Mr Ernest Kumi during the NPP primaries with four votes which was held recently.
