It is so sad how a lot looks down on the gospel fraternity when it comes to winning an award. They tend not to understand how, when or any input of the gospel artists, that push them as candidates to winning awards.
This uproar of the debate came about after Diana Hamilton won the Artist of the Year at the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
This is the second time a gospel artist is winning The Artist Of The Year category. The first was Joe Mettle.
During the time Joe Mettle won that award, the same uproar was experienced. One of the circular artists to have passed a comment was Kwaw Kese. He stated that he didn’t know Joe Mettle or has neither heard his song until he was announced as the winner for the 2016 VGMA artist of the year category.
It is so sad a thing, the perception and notion people create for the gospel fraternity.
This situation has caused one of the award-winning gospel artists to share his perspective: MOG Music.
Nana Yaw Boakye, who is popularly known by his stage name MOG Music, is a Ghanaian contemporary gospel singer, songwriter and Pastor. He won the Male Vocalist of the Year 2020 and won it again at the just ended 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
On one of his handles, he said:
“It’s interesting how some people are trying to underrate gospel ministers/artist in the industry. The fact that you hardly listen to us doesn’t mean we don’t have the numbers and the impact. Be intelligent to check the stats before talking.”
And it is so so true. The fact that they hardly listen to them doesn’t mean they don’t have the numbers and the impact.
He concluded by saying, ” good music is finally taking over.”
