CEO Engages Stakeholders On Implementing NHIS For Childhood Cancers In Korle-Bu

The Chief Executive Officer, Dr Opoku Ware Ampomah today met with the Hospital’s technical team, comprising Paediatricians, Finance Officers, NHIS managers, a Pharmacist and diagnostics managers from the Laboratory and Pathology, discuss the implementation of NHIS for Childhood Cancers in the Hospital.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss pertinent challenges and mitigation measures toward real and anticipated risks.

As part of the next steps, the Hospital’s Management will engage with officials of NHIA to address bottlenecks to ensure the delivery of quality service that will assure improved care outcomes.

The most common types of cancer diagnosed in children ages 0 to 14 years are leukaemias, brain and other central nervous system (CNS) tumours, and lymphomas.

Childhood cancers are almost always caused by a DNA mutation that is not inherited but happens randomly (acquired). Children with acquired DNA mutations can’t pass them on to their children in the future.
