Detection Of Omicron variant At the Kotoka International Airport

The Director-General of Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma Aboakye, during the launch of Ghana’s COVID-19 vaccination month starting today the 1st of Dec 2021.

Announced that the COVID-19 Omicron variant has been detected, however has not yet been discovered within our locality.

He assures Ghanaians that “The Omicron variant of the COVID-19 disease has been found at the kotoka international airport.

The good thing is that in the community test done so far we have not seen any Omicron within the community of Ghana, but the danger is that if someone has the Omicron and it is incubating it will not be found at the airport”.

According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the variant was found on Sunday 21st of November,2021 in a Nigerian traveller.

The director has however assured Ghanaians that intensification of all protocols have been duly done at the airport in other to avoid community spread.
