On Friday, May 20 2022 Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto received Israel in Ghana Ambassador H.E Shlomit Sufa at The Ministry Of Food And Agriculture Ghana.
Owusu Afriyie Akoto is a cabinet minister in the Nana Akufo-Addo administration and serves as the Minister of Food and Agriculture of Ghana since 2017.
He had a fruitful engagement with the Ambassador where she briefed him on the 11 monthly Agricultural training programmes in Israel. The programme which runs for about a year will afford Ghanaian agricultural trainees the opportunity to study at the Israeli Agricultural Centre once a week and prepare for research under the supervision of a mentor from the centre. Trainees will then spend the rest of the week applying theories they learn in the classroom by working on a farm.
H.E Shlomit Sufa in her submission indicated that as part of the international development activities of the state of Israel, it seeks to provide advanced training in modern agriculture to agriculture students from Ghana.
The programme exposes students from Ghana to technologies and methods of growing and managing modern farms so they can apply the knowledge and skills acquired for the development of Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Additionally, she pointed out that the programme aims at transforming trainees from Ghana into agricultural entrepreneurs who will return home with new techniques.
Dr Akoto was appreciative of the support given by the Israeli state to Ghana’s agricultural students. Again, he is optimistic the programme will turn trainees from Ghana into agricultural economic powerhouses.
He concluded that he believes this initiative will continue to strengthen Ghana-Israeli ties.
