A former Alexa engineer now with tech company, Akvelon, has developed an app called, MeowTalk to translate cat sounds.
MeowTalk records the sound from cats and to makes meaning to humans.
The cat’s owner also helps to label the translation, which will create a database for the AI software to learn from.
As at now, the app has only 13 phrases in it’s vocabulary such as: “Feed me!”, “I’m angry!” and “Leave me alone!”
Since every cat’s miaow is unique and tailored to its owner, the app’s translation differs with each individual profile.
Javier Sanchez, group technical program manager at app developer Akvelon, said the eventual aim is to develop a smart-collar, a technology that would translate cat’s miaow instantly while a human voce speaks through the collar.
In the reviews of the MeowTalk app, some people are happy but others are not due to the fact that it records the cats sound for future use.
The app which is in a “development phase” advises anyone “concerned about data retention” to uninstall the app until it is fully compliant with the EU’s GDPR privacy law.
The app is available free on both Google Play Store and App Store.
