Judges Buying Auction Cars

According to the Auditor-report General from 2021, 19 vehicles were purchased illegally by seventeen (17) retired and active judges of Ghana’s superior courts.

According to the report, the purchase of the vehicles was against Public Financial Management Regulations, 2019 Regulation 158. (L.I. 2378).

The cars were “auctioned by the Service for GH1,023,507.96 without approval from the Minister of Finance,” the report claims.

According to the regulation, the principal spending officer of a covered entity is required to get the Minister’s written consent before transferring, exchanging, selling, donating, providing a contribution in kind, placing a vehicle in trust, or doing any other type of disposal.

The report stated, “In the absence of approval from the Minister for Finance, we recommended that the auction be declared void and the vehicles be recovered.”

Saloon cars and SUVs are among the vehicles.

According to the Report, some of the judges each purchased two cars.
