Kwadwo Nkansah lilwin granted GH¢50,000 bail by court

Following his arrest on Monday, June 3, 2024, Ghanaian comedian and actor Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin was given GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties by the Asokore Mampong District Court.

Shortly after being released from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the actor was taken into custody by agents from the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Manhyia Divisional Command. The prosecution made the court aware that the investigation was still ongoing and emphasized how crucial it was that the accused be accessible at all times.

Lil Win faces charges of careless injury and reckless driving.

Lilwin’s lawyer, Margaret Adjei-Twum, pleaded for bail, citing the need for medical attention for her client who had internal bleeding among other injuries. She promised the court that Lilwin would not run away because he was a well-known person. She added that the police had taken the case to court even though Lilwin’s recuperation was not complete. Lilwin’s next court appearance is set for Thursday, June 27, 2024.
The actor was taken into custody on May 25, 2024, in Amakom, Kumasi, following his involvement in an accident that claimed the life of a three-year-old boy. A few hours before the release of his independently made film “A Country Called Ghana,” the accident took place.

Witnesses at the scene claim that Lilwin was driving his Mercedes Benz C300 at full speed when he struck the vehicle carrying Nana Yaw and his father. Three-year-old Nana Yaw passed away from his wounds while seeking care at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital a few days after the horrific event.

Lilwin refuted allegations from the accident victims’ family, made public last week, that he disregarded them and attended his movie premiere the day following the disaster. Despite being hurt, the actor attended the premiere of his film on the same night as the incident. Subsequently, he expressed regret to the grieving family for his “insensitive comment” and decided to postpone the release of his movie Sunyani in remembrance of the departed.
