n Katsina state in northwest Nigeria, Hajara Shuaibu has been labelled as the most fertile lady in Nigeria after she gave birth to a set of quintuplets on Wednesday 5th October 2022.
In an interview with BBC Pidgin, Hajara shared her experience.
According to her, she had no idea she was expecting quintuplets. She has never received ante-natal care and always gives birth at home assisted by local birth attendants known as Unguwan zoma in Hausa.
She revealed that she was taken to the Funtua General Hospital after being delivered.
“All my previous births were at home and I have never undergone a caesarian section but this time around after I gave birth at home, I was taken to the hospital for a blood transfusion due to my condition.”
Hajara indicated that she is just an ordinary housewife who isn’t on any diet or routine give to birth but it’s God who has helped her.
She also called on the government and netizens to come to her aid to help take care of her babies.
Shuaibu Umar, Hajara’s husband revealed to BBC Pidgin that two out of the five babies passed away on Thursday but the surviving three and their mother have been transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Katsina for further care.
“Funtua Hospital doesn’t have incubators that’s why we were moved to Katsina to get the needed care for the babies”, he stated.
Shuaibu, a farmer in Doma village, says he sees children as blessings from God and his wife isn’t on any special diet.
He also revealed that the Chairman of Faskari local government in Katsina has donated an amount of 100,000 nairas but it isn’t enough for their large family.
Umar Hussaini, Hajara’s father also spoke to BBC Pidgin. He revealed he married his daughter off at the tender age of fourteen, twenty-one years ago. He accorded Hajara’s children as gifts from God.
