Mahama to Akufo-Addo: "Stop Using Public Funds To Build The National Cathedral."

The building of the National Cathedral Project, according to former president John Dramani Mahama, can no longer be a top priority given the country’s current cost of living crisis.

In his opinion, it is not necessary to make any further efforts to continue allocating public funds and the meagre state resources to the project at this critical juncture.

The former President said, “The public funding of the national cathedral, particularly at this time, must stop,” when discussing the state of Ghana’s economy.

Invoking his Christian beliefs, Mr Mahama emphasized that funds should instead be used to revive the faltering economy and added that money already invested in the construction projects should also be subject to a value-for-money audit.

Being a Christian myself and deeply appreciating the role that God plays in the development of nations, I concur with the majority of Ghanaians who think that the project cannot currently rank as the government’s top priority and justifies the injection of more of the country’s limited resources.

“I believe that the project should be subjected to a value-for-money audit in order to open the way for believers who wish to contribute to its construction to do so,” Mr Mahama continued. “Because of the non-transparency of the procurements associated with the project.
