Vesta Daily – Accra: Mark Owen Woyongo, a former member of parliament for Navrongo Central and minister of defence, passed away.
On Thursday, January 18, Mr. Awini Zinge, the leader of the Woyongo Family, announced his death in a statement. The age of Mr. Woyongo was 74.
After declining health for some time, the former Upper East Regional Minister passed away on Wednesday, January 17, at the Bank of Ghana Hospital in Accra.
From 2012 until 2016, Mark Woyongo served as the Navrongo Central MP. In December 2016, he declared his retirement from politics and would never run for office again.
In his administration in 2009, the late President John Evans Atta Mills named him the Upper East Regional Minister.
After President Mills passed away, former President John Dramani Mahama kept him in that role.
President Mahama put him up in 2013 to be the Minister of Defense. President Mahama later nominated him in 2014 for the post of Interior Minister.
