NDC Requests Attorney General Godfred Dame's Dismissal Due to His Behavior During the Ambulance Trial

Moments after disclosing a phone conversation regarding his actions in prosecuting the party’s minority leader in parliament and another in the ambulance case, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is calling for the resignation or removal of Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Godfred Dame.

The NDC has made public a 16-minute audio recording and WhatsApp text messages that it claims demonstrate the AG’s attempt to pressure Mr Richard Jakpa, the third accused party in the case, into providing false testimony that would implicate Ato Forson, the minority leader.

Party Chairman Aseidu Nketia addressed a press conference today, May 28, saying, “Friends from the media, it is clear from the incontrovertible evidence that we have adduced today, that the government has no evidence of wrongdoing against the Minority leader, but is only involved in fabrications to prosecute him as retribution for his strong opposition to the economic mismanagement of the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government.”

The party further demands that the Attorney-General be subject to disciplinary actions and perhaps even disbarred by the General Legal Council, which oversees the legal profession in Ghana.

The NDC’s requests follow court disclosures made this week by Richard Jakpa, who said that Dame had approached him at strange hours to obtain testimony that would implicate Ato Forson.

The Attorney General, meanwhile, has denied any misconduct and asserted that he has proof that the Third Accused approached him about a plea agreement.
