Nigeria's Access Bank picks Bolaji Agbede after the death of CEO

Access Bank, a well-known Nigerian financial institution, has selected an interim CEO following the terrible death of its CEO, Herbert Wigwe, who was killed in a helicopter accident last Friday, along with five others.

In a recent statement, Access Holdings Plc, Access Bank’s parent business, announced that Bolaji Agbede, the bank’s acclaimed senior founding executive director, will serve as CEO on an acting basis.

According to the BBC, Ms Agbede began working for Access Bank in 2003 and has approximately 30 years of banking and business consulting expertise.

Wigwe’s chartered helicopter was flying from Palm Springs to Boulder City, Nevada when it crashed around 96 kilometres (60 miles) from Las Vegas. Local media stated that the 57-year-old banker was going to Las Vegas to attend the Super Bowl on Sunday.
Wigwe started Access Bank in 1989, which grew to become one of Nigeria’s major banks in 2018 after acquiring its primary competitor, Diamond Bank.
