Vesta Daily – Accra: Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the member of parliament for Assin Central, has launched a vicious assault on Francis Asenso-Boakye, the sitting member for the Bantama seat. Agyapong accuses Asenso-Boakye of corruption and urges delegates to remove him from office in the approaching New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries.
Known for his candour, Mr. Agyapong made the charges in Kumasi during a meeting with representatives from Bantama.
He asserted that Mr. Asenso-Boakye, who is also the Minister of Housing and Works, should not be re-elected since he participated in corrupt practices while serving as President.
Nevertheless, he offered no hard data to back up his assertions.
By saying that he would make the information public if delegates choose to re-elect the current MP, Mr Agyapong further alluded to potentially explosive disclosures on Mr Asenso-Boakye’s purported corruption.
He presented this as an offer with conditions, implying that their choice would dictate whether he kept quiet or came clean about the alleged misconduct.
“You will all be witnesses to the revelations I will make if you vote for Asenso by mistake.” It’s a requirement, Mr. Agyapong said. You should vote against him if you don’t want me to speak. Vote for him if you want me to speak, because we won’t let them ruin Ghana.
In Bantama, Mr. Agyapong is running a campaign for his brother, Ralph Kwame Agyapong, who is also running in the next primaries for the Bantama seat.
On Saturday, January 27, NPP delegates will choose parliamentary candidates in seats now held by Members of Parliament.
