OSP defends Cecilia Dapaah’s stance in the missing money allegation.

The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has revealed that the Attorney General’s case against former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah’s domestic staff led to his office’s decision to look into the source of the enormous quantities of money that went missing.

Speaking on The Point of View on Citi TV on Monday, January 8, Mr Agyebeng made it clear that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was called in to look into the source of the over $1 million and other valuables that were taken from the former minister’s Abelemkpe residence, while the Attorney General was looking into and prosecuting her house helpers for the missing money on behalf of the government.

He said that the OSP spoke with the Attorney General to learn the facts.

We are investigating the origin and destination of this money from the standpoint of the OSP. that a public official’s home is the recipient of this enormous quantity of money.

We told the Attorney General we were investigating the situation and were curious about what was happening on the other end. Ironically, the inquiry was sparked by the legal proceedings brought up by the Attorney General over the theft case. As soon as we witnessed those judicial procedures, we got intrigued.

“It [the Attorney General’s case] doesn’t hinder our work; in fact, it improves it because, by tracking down the source of the money and determining whether someone stole this amount of money in the first place, we can all work toward a comprehensive resolution to the issue.”

In July 2023, it became known that Cecilia Abena Dapaah and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour, had two housekeepers who were brought before an Accra Circuit Court on charges of larceny amounting to millions of Ghana Cedis.

A day after the news leaked, Cecilia Dapaah was compelled to retire, and agents from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) searched her home.
