E-Levy On Hold Till January 18th 2022

Joseph Osei Owusu, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament has duly declared on Tuesday 21st December that Parliament has adjourned sitting to January 18th, 2022.

On Monday 20th December, a fight ensued when members of Parliaments was voting in a headcount to decide whether the electronic transfer levy bill (e-levy) should be accepted under a certificate of urgency.

The decision of the first deputy speaker to vacate the seat to vote triggered the chaos, some members were engaged in a fistfight.

In an interaction with the Majority Leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, he said “I think that this will also allow us some time to have further consultations among ourselves, it is the reason why the First Deputy Speaker had to adjourn the House sine die.

As you know, the budget has been passed, there was an attempt to portray that that there is no budget, there is a budget, the appropriations bill passed.”
