The Public Affairs Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has issued a statement with regards to the death of James Nana Womba. A prime suspect in the murder of Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh.
The statement read:
“The Criminal Investigation Department confirms the death of suspect James Nana Womba. The deceased until his death was a prime suspect in a case of the murder of Professor Emmanuel Yaw Benneh, which is still under investigation.
The deceased 26 years was remanded in police custody with two other suspects for their involvement in the murder of Professor Emmanuel Yaw Bennet who until his death was a professor of law at the University of Ghana, Legon.
On Thursday 15th October 2020, the suspect was fell sick and was rushed to the Police Hospital for treatment. He was treated and discharged on the same day and sent back to the police cells in Accra.
On Friday 16th October 2020, the suspect fell unconscious whilst in custody and was rushed to the Police Hospital for further treatment but passed on whilst on admission on Saturday 17th October 2020 in the morning.
An autopsy will be conducted to access the cause of death.
Meanwhile, the two suspects are to reappear before the court on Monday 26th October 2020.”
