Bernard Allotey Jacobs, a former chairman of the NDC Central Regional Committee, has expressed sympathy to John Boadu for losing the New Patriotic Party national elections that were held on Saturday, July 16 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The unsuccessful candidate for General Secretary was defeated by Justin Frimpong Koduah, a former CEO of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) (JFK).
Given that he had higher odds of winning the election than his rival, many people had expected John Boadu to be re-elected; but, the delegates ultimately demonstrated that they didn’t need him as much as they wanted JFK to take over the General Secretary position.
Allotey Jacobs, an accomplished politician who is familiar with the workings of party politics, tried to determine why John Boadu was ousted.
“Maybe John Boadu didn’t see and handle his flaws because for a person to send a party to an election twice to win elections when he loses an election, then there might be something wrong somewhere,” he said in a Peace FM interview.
He explained that by voting against Mr Boadu, the delegates were implying that “John might have damaged some people.” John might have been one of those individuals who never answers the phone. John might have been someone you don’t typically run into at work. I understood that it was a project that required a shift in order to reenergize the grassroots. An adjustment was required to bring the government closer.
Even though he acknowledged that Mr Boadu was his best chance to become the NPP General Secretary, he cautioned other political leaders to take Mr Boadu’s defeat as a test case or thesis for politicians or political students.
