Vesta Daily – Accra: The head of the South Korean opposition, Lee Jae-myung, was stabbed in the neck on Tuesday while visiting the port city of Busan in the south. According to Yonhap news agency, the incident happened when Democratic Party chairman Lee was visiting a possible location for a new airport.
After just missing the president in the 2022 election, Lee was sent right away to a university hospital in the area.
He was still awake after the incident, according to party officials and fire department officials who spoke with Reuters. According to YTN news, Lee suffered a 1 cm gash on his neck as a result of the incident.
Before attacking Lee, the attacker—who was described as a man in his 50s or 60s—came up to him pretending to be seeking an autograph. The attacker was wearing a paper crown with Lee’s name on it. Yonhap stated that the suspect was promptly taken into custody after being subdued.
The assailant was shown lunging for Lee in the video, which was shown on YTN television and circulated on social media. This caused Lee to fall to the ground. Images from the news showed Lee on the ground with a handkerchief being pressed on his neck by onlookers.
