bus with the registration number GN 9746-16 conveying 36 students from Winneba to the Volta Region was involved in a ghastly accident at Aprede in the Eastern Region.
The car which was conveying students of the Early Childhood Education Department of the University of Education, Winneba to Mountain Afadjato for an educational trip was involved in an accident.
According to sources, the road from Adukrom to Somanya was under construction and wasn’t in a good condition. In order to escape the hurdles of the bad road, the driver decided to ply the Aprede road which is a mountainous area and full of curves. Unfortunately, his brake failed and since he wasn’t familiar with the route, the bus somersaulted and fell into a ditch.
Victims were rushed from the accident scene to the Koforidua Teaching Hospital.
A lecturer died on the spot and two students died on their way to the Tetteh Quarshie Hospital for treatment because their situation was critical.
The rest of the students who sustained various forms of injuries are being attended to at the Koforidua Teaching Hospital and are responding to treatment.
