This Is Why Akuffo-Addo Advocates UDS Be Renamed After Former President J.J. Rawlings

Akuffo-Addo advocates UDS be renamed after former President JJ Rawlings

The sitting President of Ghana, Nana Akuffo-Addo is advocating that the University For Development Studies (UDS) would be renamed after the late former president J. J. Rawlings.

This comes after the initial proposal in 2017 by the Ministry of Education to honor the Ex-military man’s role in the establishment of UDS in the early 90’s.

However, the decision was declined by the late J J Rawlings in a social media post which stated, “Thank you but don’t rename UDS after me”.

In a graduation ceremony in UDS, Tamale campus, President Nana Akuffo-Addo reinstated that the institution be renamed after Rawlings.

“The immense amount of work undertaken by President Rawlings and his government resulted in the establishment of this university. Not withstanding these sentiments, and with all due respect to him, it is my strong belief, which I am sure has the backing of the majority of Ghanaians that such an honour be accorded him” .
