Ride-hailing company, Uber has unveiled a mask verification feature to protect both drivers and passengers from COVID-19.
The mask verification feature is part of Uber’s “No Mask, No Ride” policy that requires both passengers and drivers to wear a nose mask at all times whenever they are onboard an Uber vehicle to mitigate the spread of Covid-19.
According to a press release by Uber, users who do not wear the masks will be flagged and would have to take a selfie in the app to verify if they are wearing a mask before they can enjoy the next ride.
Furthermore, drivers must verify if they are wearing a mask before they can accept trips.
The driver mask verification technology detects the mask as an object in the photo and does not process biometric information.
Actions would be taken on drivers who violate the nose mask policy and users can report to the company if either the driver or passenger is not wearing nose masks.
