Isaac Okai, who used to be known by his stage name Yaw Siki of ‘Wope Dodo’ fame now an evangelist, preached to hundreds of students at a crusade organized by the Chaplaincy Board of Accra Technical University.
The crusade started on Wednesday, 3rd February and is said to end on Friday, 5th February.
The Wope Dodo hit singer at the crusade shared with the hundreds of students the foul lifestyle he lived and how he came face to face with death.
There was a doubt on the faces of the students when he was introduced as the young man who once sung “Wope Dodo”. To clear the doubt he gave a freestyle.
“Obisa me daa p3 nu daa ooji na manfamanu ah waay3 aka
Y3 nwie mpo na second li pend, ocommandi demandi me nkwanta
Like me d3nst3m wo nch3nch3n nt3mnt3m nala ooji nu ta
Obite me fimfim ma me twimtwim maa sin sin kraa matter
Odi ne bonto shoto visit me na waa crashi me dompo…”
In his message to the students, he made them know the exact lifestyle he was living when his hit single started making waves. “I was addicted to pornography, musterbation, alcohol and the smoking of marijuana. Worst of it all was the lifestyle of womanising. In every show I did, irrespective of the country, I’ll find myself ladies that I’ll sleep with.” He said
He cautioned the students to desist from this act. For there is no pleasure in them. The most important thing on earth is seeking God’s kingdom. For the kingdom of God is full of righteousness, peace and joy. Peace and joy isn’t derived from material things but through seeking the kingdom of God.
He again told the crowd gathered how and where his accident occurred.
“Years ago, I was known for my hit single ‘Wope Dodo’, and a crazy lifestyle. All of that changed when I was involved in an accident on the Accra-Tema Motorway with a friend on Monday, April 15, 2013, on our way back from Accra.
Our Toyota Camry car somersaulted near the Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) Dominion Centre. We were rushed to the 37 Military Hospital. I was later admitted and treated for deep cuts on my head. Unknown to the rescuers, I had a broken born that was an inch away from my respiratory system, the X-ray showed. In other words, I was an inch away from death.
Due to how complex my situation was, I had metals been screwed from my back straight to my skull for three months.
I came face to face with death. It was through this wilderness experience of mine I encountered Jesus. Since that encounter, I started responding positively to treatments.”
He concluded by saying he has not regretted making this move and neither would they also regret when the change from their ways and follow Jesus.
