Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress, has criticized Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s choice to challenge him in the party’s upcoming internal elections as being incorrect.
Ofosu-Ampofo claims that it is impossible to call the choice politically correct. “In my thinking, the general secretary contesting me is not necessary,” the national chairman, who is running for re-election, bemoaned in a yet-to-air interview with Adom TV.
He revealed that numerous attempts by the party’s Council of Elders and 2020 NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama to convince Asiedu Nketia to change his mind had failed.
“This decision is not politically correct, and the Council made other moves, so this move is the wrong move,”
Mr. Ofosu-Ampofo went on to say that there had been attempts made within the party to undermine him, including portraying him as anti-Mahama and preparing him for legal action.
Otukonor of the NDC bares all and discusses NDC polls, the economy, and other topics.
Before the NDC’s general elections in December 2022, the incumbent NDC Deputy General Secretary, Peter Boamah Otukonor, sat down with Nimatu Yakubu Atouyese on GhanaWeb’s Election Desk and baring all.
“When NDC members want to discredit you, they start by labelling you as anti-Mahama. People in my own party videotaped me during a meeting with the party’s leadership and sold the footage to the NPP, who is prosecuting me as a result. I have appeared in court 70 times, he said.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia, who has chosen to ascend from the party’s general secretary position after serving for more than a decade as the NDC’s chief scribe, will be a fierce opponent in Ofosu-bid Ampofo’s for reelection.
The national election for the NDC is slated to take place in December of this year.
